Why Should Your Counselors and Educators Take This Course?

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death amongst children age 10-14. This statistic is unacceptable. We must unite to mitigate this and provide our students with the skills and tools they need to prioritize mental health. In addition, our educators are drowning in overwhelming caseloads, challenging situations, and their own well-being is suffering. Support your counselors and educators' mental health journey today!

  • As an administrator, are you certain your teachers are teaching the NY State Mental Health standards? Many educators are unaware of what they are and how to effectively teach them. This is a state mandate that is every educator's responsibility. This course will help educators meet the mandate.

  • Do you have posters that say, "Positive vibes only' in your school? Learn why this can be harmful to students. Educators will learn simple language shifts that communicate to students that mental health is as important as physical health and begins to remove the stigma surrounding mental health conversations.

  • Do your educators complain that there is no time to add 'another thing' to their day? Educators will learn how to incorporate mental health standards seamlessly into the context of their day whether they are a kindergarten teacher or geometry teacher. A special emphasis will be on how counselors and teachers can work together to implement the mental health standards.

  • Is your staff stressed out, burned out, and overwhelmed? Educators will learn how to carve out their own Slice of Mindfulness because the educators nervous system IS the intervention in the classroom.

  • Support your educators with this self-paced, on demand course that will equip them with the knowledge of the standards and how to use mindfulness to teach mental health. This goes way beyond an assembly during Mental Health Awareness month. This course will bring lasting growth and transformation.

FAQ

  • Could I use this course as a Professional Development day training for my staff?

Absolutely! Many districts are using Mental Health Literacy Through Mindfulness for K-12 Counselors and Educators as an impactful training resource for faculty meetings, professional development days, or grade level cohort training!

  • I want to offer my educators CTLE or PD hours for taking the course. How many hours would be appropriate?

This is a great option for validating the work, time, effort, and growth your educators will walk with away from the course. This course will be a minimum of 10 hours and will have a myriad of opportunities for reflection, discussion, and deeper investigation which could warrant additional PD hours at the District's discretion.

  • Do you offer any opportunities for my teachers to engage with a trainer live?

Absolutely! We can recommend a customized package that includes individual or group virtual coaching sessions so that your educators have the opportunity to dive more deeply into the content, get their questions answered, and receive feedback for implementing content directly with their population of learners.

  • Do my teachers need to attend weekly sessions?

No! We know your teachers and counselors are busy. That's why this course is self-paced so that they can dedicate time to it in a way that best serves them. Our research has shown that educators engage more deeply with the content when they are able to do so at the time that works best for them. This option reduces missing content due to arriving late to class as well as absences. The on demand format ensures educators get the most out of the course.

  • How many educators can sign up for the course?

Initial packages are for a max of 20 educators. They will have access to the materials for one year. Packages can be created for additional seats.

What Teachers Are Saying...

“This course was extremely beneficial for my craft of work in the health classroom and in the gymnasium. I was able to internalize a lot of key points that were made in this class and then transfer them the next day in my classes. It really has opened my perspective and approach to different situations day-to-day whether it be teaching or in my own personal life. -Christina P.”

“Melanie's slice of mindfulness is exactly what you think, a small slice of practical ways to implement or fit mindfulness into your daily life or classroom. Small yet consistent changes make a world of a difference especially when it comes to your mental health. Many of us dedicate an hour a day to support our physical health by going to the gym etc.., but fail to just spend 10 minutes caring for our minds.”

“Slice of Mindfulness helped me find my calm space. Learning how to identify how my body reacts to situations will enable me to understand and positively respond to my students and their needs. ”
